Perineal Rehabilitation for Children

Our team physiotherapists also have a training allowing them to practice the perineal re-education with children.

It is a field of physiotherapy, specialized, which has been proven, but is still very rare in Quebec and who really deserves to be known.

Commonly treated problems:

For the Child:

      • Enuresis (bed wetting)
      • Potty Training
      • Encopresis
      • Constipation
      • Urinary or fecal incontinence (leaking of pee or poop)
      • Etc.

Perineal therapy is an approach of physiotherapy which primarily addresses the dysfunctions in the genital area, named pelvic floor musculature, which can lead to problems with cleanliness of your child.

The sessions are 1 hour. The physiotherapist will make a physical assessment and an external evaluation of the perineum (genital area) of the child. It is sometimes appropriate to also make an assessment inside the anus in order to identify the anatomical structures that are affected and the presence of tension of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Then, she will proceed to manual interventions and will teach your child different exercises.

We also frequently use a device that captures the activity of the muscles of the pelvic floor using small electrodes outside the perineal cavities, reproducing it on a screen in the form of fun activities for the child.

We take great care to ensure that the therapy is made in accordance with the consent of the child and at their own pace.

Activities are done in a fun context, by games.

Children usually appreciate the sessions and parents are very satisfied with the results. Feel free to contact us to discuss with us.
